ABOUT MR. BARNETT
Ned Barnett is a native Houstonian. His father, both grandfathers and his great-grandfather were all lawyers. Mr. Barnett graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1984 and immediately enrolled in the University of Houston Law School. In 1987 he graduated from law school and was admitted to the Texas State Bar in 1987.
Mr. Barnett's first job as an attorney was in the Galveston County Criminal District Attorney's office as a state prosecutor. He served in that office for three years working for Mr. Michael Guarino. There he prosecuted all cases ranging from DWI's to Capital Murder. For a year Mr. Barnett either personally prosecuted or supervised the prosecution of every DWI case in the county. During that time he handled more jury trials than any prosecutor in the office.
In 1991 Mr. Barnett became a Federal Prosecutor for the Department of Justice with the Assistant United States Attorney's office in Houston, Texas. There he prosecuted a variety of criminal cases with an emphasis on major drug conspiracies. As a federal prosecutor Mr. Barnett was the lead trial lawyer on a large number of significant criminal cases with a perfect record. He never lost a case. After serving three years in this office he now had the proper training and experience to become a criminal defense attorney, his life long dream, like his father, grandfathers and great grandfather before him.
In 1994 Mr. Barnett began representing people charged with drunk driving (DWI). DWI cases represent the majority of all cases that he handles. He has handled these and other cases with a tremendous amount of success. He is board certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is certified in the Standard Field Sobriety Tests that police officers use when arresting people accused of DWI. He owns a police breath test machine. Likewise, he is certified to operate the machine. He feels this type of training is very important when questioning a police officer in trial.
Mr. Barnett's experience and training has earned him numerous invitations to speak to other attorneys regarding the practice of law in defending DWI cases. In short, Mr. Barnett's career is dedicated to the defense of criminal cases.
